South Bend’s Alcohol and Addictions Resource Center is the latest recipient of Dec-O-Art’s community support donation.

In 2021, Dec-O-Art commemorated its 50th year of operations. As the year draws to a close, the recipient of the most recent community support initiative is Alcohol and Addictions Resource Center (AARC), a local not-for-profit agency that has been impacting our community for 60 years.

Leading the area with initiatives to destigmatize mental health disorders, along with alcohol and substance misuse, the AARC is the first local agency to offer educational programming to the families and friends of alcoholics; the first to provide employee assistance programming; the first to incorporate drug and alcohol education into a school setting; and the first to establish a program dedicated solely to the prevention of substance use during pregnancy.

Brian Mounts, Executive Director of the AARC, elaborated on some of the biggest hurdles faced while reaching the public.

“A lot of people have driven by our office building a thousand times and they have no idea who we are or what we do. We want people to know that they can come to us with any questions they might have around mental health and substance use disorders. Just having people help get the word out about what we do is huge.”

The donation from Dec-O-Art will be used to help the AARC provide more materials and resources to help reach those in need and to expand or add additional programs in order to assist and educate.

“A rising tide lifts all ships and our hope is that the resources needed to support Michiana continue to be readily available through the AARC,” said Matt Paige, Marketing Coordinator at Dec-O-Art.
